▶ 5:30 order number 2719 is for acceptance of a grant issued by the Massachusetts Board of library commissioners through the library services and Technology Act direct grant program I'd like to take just a moment to commend the work of Mary Ann Stanton and Jill Connolly who are the children's and teens librarians at the library they put in an exceptional amount of work for this competitive grant and they really work to ensure that their grant program will really meet the needs of our specific Melrose community the science is Everywhere grant will focus on serving our 3rd to 8th grade populations through increased exposure to science and technology. We will be partnering with John Morris, the chair of the science department for grades 6 through 12 over
▶ 6:15 at the schools, as well as several local science-oriented institutions. We will be able to purchase a small mobile makerspace cart for active projects, as well as add to our science collection areas for the target age group the trustees of Melrose Public Library will be making the local commitment in support of the grant by purchasing a science flicks database which is geared towards late elementary through early high school students and we're very excited to begin working on the grant this year thank you very much we have any questions from the committee no match right correct the trustees are putting forward motion to recommend for passage I got a motion recommend for passes made by Alderman Mortimer second seconded by Alderman Osorio any other
▶ 7:03 Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis: discussion Alderman McAteer-Margolis please thank you mr. chairman I'm not a member of this committee but I'm always excited to hear about the great work that the Merrill's Public Library is doing are you going to be when you say targeting three to eight are you gonna have like an after-school program a couple of one day a week for a certain a lot of time or something like that it's going to be a series of programs so we will all different types of STEM programs I think there's one that's aeronautic one that's robotics different areas of interest and then again bringing in different institutions like the the Einstein workshop and things like that okay and you're going to be partnering with one of the curriculum coordinators did you say at the high
▶ 7:53 Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis: school or the uh yes uh the science chair for grades 6 through 12 john morris okay great and so um is it the kind of thing kids will sign up for they'll just be able to sort of drop in or have you decided those details yet or not really combination of the two um so things like the specific programs you know that you need supplies and whatnot there'll be sign ups and then the material that we buy for the collection and the maker space with those crafts everybody will just be able to use ongoing and it will take place at the library primarily yes i believe there's something planned for el pond but okay sounds really exciting so good luck and congratulations on um on being selected and passed along to the staff as well thank you thank you thank you mr

▶ 9:25 werco any discussion alderman's werco please thank you mr chairman i just had one quick question so it says here in order to meet the municipal appropriation calculation could you just explain what exactly that is yes this is a it's an annual transfer that we make the municipal appropriation requirement is set by the Massachusetts board of library commissioners and it is a funding for our budget that we are required to hit a certain mark each year in order to remain state certified so all of the municipalities in Massachusetts meet the requirements to stay certified and that's what allows all of us to have access to all the statewide databases that we have online as well as the entire interlibrary loan system throughout
