Gail Inferna is the Vice Chairman. Other members of the committee present are Jaclyn Bird, Francis Wright, John Tramontozzi. Also in attendance, we have President Donald Kahn, Robert Boycelle, and Jennifer Lemelman, as well as Monica Medeiros. I would now welcome a motion. The first order we have before us is order number 2015-9. It is the acceptance of a Massachusetts Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission the FY14 preservation grant in the amount of $3,400,

Seconded by Alderman Inferno that the appropriate city officials, our veterans, superintendent may come forward and members of the veterans board. Mr. Driscoll may come forward. Ryan McClain and Bob Driscoll, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you, gentlemen. Good evening. Thank you. Would you like to make a preliminary statement or would you like to proceed right to conversation with the Alderman? Just that this, I would like to just make a quick opening statement. This is a MAS 150 grant. They're available every year by the State Department of Veterans Services. And we took advantage of this grant by including some of the Civil War work we did as our theme for Memorial Day.
▶ 2:51 money allows us to extend the work a little bit farther we still have some completion to do with the gar memorial and the cemetery which will be the primary focus to make sure that that stays nice nice and complete also add some of the the color during the memorial day ceremony those flowers were temporary we'd like to make stuff like that permanent so it's good this grant money is good and will be put to good use thank you very much mr mclean Would you like to add anything? No, just part of the money that was money raised by the Operation Gettysburg Club. The middle school students who raised money to match the grant, so just kudos to the students for doing that. That was Grace Mercer, Kyla Waring, a few other people in that whole group.

We have from Alderman Chairman Matozu, we have a motion to recommend this for passage at our next full board meeting. Duly seconded by Alderman Byrd. It's been assigned to this committee and would you please enlighten us on this order as well. sure the absolutely I would love to the advisory board has talked about creating sort of a sustained model for making sure we can restore the monuments and we've done we've done a few the mayor our office in the advisory board and then obviously the the civic groups have been helping us fundraise we've been able to upgrade and update the World War one memorial paint the World War two Memorial the honor roll which also includes the Korean War and the Civil War monuments however we're looking for a placeholder for people who want to
▶ 5:19 donate to the restoration of these memorials and also create sort of a long-term focus and placeholder for the future of these monuments so in a perfect world a monument is installed and created and then there's some type of fund established with it so that it can have perpetual restoration unfortunately most monuments aren't done that way there's a lot of attention paid in the beginning to fundraise and put the monuments in and then years later when the families of those who are honored by the memorial have moved on or time has passed like with the Civil War those funds go away and you have to start thinking about how you're going to restore them and make sure that they are they are in good shape and honoring veterans the way they're supposed to so
▶ 6:01 this is sort of an attempt this is an attempt at that to create a long-term mechanism and accompanying this fund this is the beginning will be a long term plan to make sure that these things are rotated to make sure that they were always looking great in that any other memorials that come up have this type of sustainable funding thank you very much mr. McClain would you like to add anything mr. Driscoll I just like to add that we're putting together the Veterans Advisory Board a 10-year plan on the restoration of all the memorials and And maybe adding possibly a few more, so we're putting together that plan and once we have it, we'll present it. Ms. Galino is well known to all of us, her good work precedes her, follows her, and I'd be happy to have a motion at this time. Motion to recommend.
