And whereas an average of 21 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant. And whereas there were 14,257 organ donors in 2013 and 28,953 organ transplants were performed in 2013. And whereas you can become a registered organ donor online at www.donatelifenewengland.org or when you apply for or renew your Massachusetts driver's license or state identification card. And whereas more than 120 million people in the United States have signed up to be organ donors and donation is completely free of cost to the donor's family, and whereas we would like to encourage the citizens of Melrose to share your life, share your decision, now

It's been seven years since we lost Laura and every year it warms our heart that the city of Melrose remembers remembers Laura and knows how important it is to be a donor continuously hearing more stories of people in need last last week we were at the governor's office and I met a young woman 29 years old a wife a mother she has a three-year-old son and she's been waiting 17 months for

▶ 13:28 a heart there are so many stories of people in need but tonight I would just quickly like to introduce you to Jeff and Olivia Morrison and if you could share your story he's a local hero thank you and thank you for acknowledging the importance of this this cause it's very near and dear to our family's heart my daughter Olivia was born with a number of medical issues when she was born in 2000 and in 2009 I was privileged to donate one of my kidneys to her and six years later she's doing very well very healthy and we'll be going off to high school this next fall so you know I'm fortunate that it was an organ that I could share as a living donor but as land as Ann said you know the donor life program is so important we can't publicize this issue enough to get

Our original primary was for September 15th, so we were looking for alternatives. The week after was another Jewish holiday, and the week before was Labor Day. So we asked around a few cities and towns that have preliminaries, and September 1st seems to be the best date so that seems to be the going date for other cities and towns around the Commonwealth yes a few went with August 25th the week before but we thought that was right in the middle of summer and a little hard to get the poll workers and everything together so September 1st is the first day of school but that's the only issue right now that sounds great
