▶ 10:57 Gail Infurna: a resolution recognizing national donate life month offered by alderman galen ferner and mary beth mcattier margolis whereas april is national organ donor awareness month And whereas more than 123,000 men, women, and children currently need life-saving organ transplants. And whereas every 10 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list. And whereas an average of 21 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant. And whereas there were 14,257 organ donors in 2013 and 28,953 organ transplants were performed in 2013.

▶ 11:43 Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis: And whereas you can become a registered organ donor online at www.donatelifenewengland.org or when you apply for or renew your Massachusetts driver's license or state identification card. And whereas more than 120 million people in the United States have signed up to be organ donors and donation is completely free of cost to the donor's family, and whereas we would like to encourage the citizens of Melrose to share your life, share your decision, now therefore the Melrose Board of Aldermen hereby proclaims the month of April as Organ Donor Awareness Month for the City of Melrose in memory of Laura Lenihan on this 21st day of April 2015. ▶ 13:50 Speaker 9: share your story he's a local hero thank you and thank you for acknowledging the importance of this this cause it's very near and dear to our family's heart my daughter Olivia was born with a number of medical issues when she was born in 2000 and in 2009 I was privileged to donate one of my kidneys to her and six years later she's doing very well very healthy and we'll be going off to high school this next fall so you know I'm fortunate that it was an organ that I could share as a living donor but as land as Ann said you know the donor life program is so important we can't publicize this issue enough to get people to register and to to share their organs at death with those who need them so thank you for being such a receptive community for this cause
