Mortimer: chief thank you for coming tonight thank you thank you the next order we have before us is order 2015-27 it is an appropriation in the amount of twenty thousand dollars from account number two nine zero three two five nine zero zero zero zero library fines account to account zero one six one one two five three four two zero zero library books and periodicals for books and periodicals this has been assigned to committee we have the director of the library linda walsh with us this evening to elucidate us on this order thank you for coming miss walsh we're still under suspension

▶ 7:01 Speaker 4: would you like to make an opening statement please thank you very much thank you um this order is an order that we do annually to complete the budgeting process for our year we have we charge fines at the library for overdue items we are fortunate that we have very generous people who conveniently keep some of their items overdue and so annually we transfer those funds into the budget it's one of the few areas where the state allows us to collect funds outside of the regular budget and transfer into the budget to count towards our municipal appropriation and in Melrose we're allowed to use those funds for our books and periodicals

▶ 8:15 Speaker 4: our books and periodicals it's amazingly not we give them last year we circulated just about 300,000 items and we lost a handful of those to either a lot of people if they get damaged people come in and they'll pay a replacement cost and that goes into our fines account so that actually directly pays for replacing those items and then a few things to get lost in the shuffle but we also get a lot of people who donate items so that really kind of balances that out works it out very
