▶ 8:15 Scott M. Forbes: Melrose High School educator Lisa Lord was recognized earlier this year at the State House as one of the unsung heroines of Massachusetts. I remember reading a quote from the mayor's blog that described this honorable achievement. It reads as follows. The unsung heroines are women that don't always make the news but truly make the difference. They are the women that use their time, talent, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and to make a difference in their neighborhoods, their cities, and their towns. After reading that, I think that really does describe Lisa to a T. You only have to talk to her for just a few moments before you realize how dedicated and passionate she is about her work, and it is that dedication and that passion that has allowed our community to thrive and flourish in ways that have exceeded all of our expectations lisa continues to open the doors of opportunity to her students and successfully bridge the younger generation with an older generation of veterans these bonds and friendships that have been created throughout the years will most certainly last a lifetime in addition lisa's efforts bring an already close-knit veteran community even closer some of them are here this evening providing a platform for our local heroes to interact and contribute to the overall success of our community so we are all truly grateful for the work that you do the city of melrose is definitely a better place because of your hard work and dedication the resolution reads as follows a resolution honoring

Forbes: lisa lord whereas lisa is the president and founder of the melrose veterans memory project which continues to grow in high school student membership beginning with just a dozen students three years ago to more than 30 today whereas lisa completed her ninth veterans in the classroom event this initiative started with six veterans in her homeroom class moved to the high school resource center and is currently being held next door at the soldiers and sailors memorial building due to growth and popularity the event now connects more than 100 students with 30 veterans annually from world war ii to present day whereas lisa coordinates the veteran memorial cleanup at at Wyoming Cemetery and the Knoll annually with members of the Melrose Veterans Memory Project. Whereas Lisa is a key member of the Melrose Veterans Advisory Board, participating in activities such as food drives, memorial restoration projects, veteran history projects, and Memorial Day parade ceremonies. Whereas Lisa serves as the leader for several city research projects including veteran memorials, veteran grave sites at Wyoming Cemetery, and the collection of veteran personal history narratives. whereas Lisa and her students actively collect historical artifacts from community members, preserving the history in physical and digital formats, creating an archive of Melrose military history that is invaluable. Now, therefore, be it resolved that we, the mayor, and members of the Board of Aldermen, do by this resolution before us honor Lisa M. Lord with our gratitude and appreciation for her many years of extraordinary service to our veterans and our community, And be it further resolved that on this 21st day of December in the year 2015, a copy of this resolution be spread upon the records of the Board of Aldermen and a special copy thereof be prepared and presented to Lisa M. It truly has been an honor and privilege to work with the veterans community in Melrose and to see how much this project has grown since 2007. But our success truly has been the result of a group effort. The Veterans Memory Project would not have grown nearly so large or so quickly without the tireless efforts of Bob Driscoll and Ryan McClain. activities would not be nearly as meaningful without the hard work and the dedication of our young people who really are the backbone of the memory project our efforts would be in vain without the cooperation of the local veterans who have been so willing to share their their time and their stories we appreciate the support we've received from the Melrose public schools and from the entire Melrose community and we look forward to continuing that partnership for years to come. Thank you.
