Lemmerman: recognize his actions on the evening of october 3rd on howard street here in the city of morose as i think everyone is aware there was a tragic car accident that happened that evening and this was a situation that was certainly chaotic and certainly dangerous and we saw

▶ 10:54 Jennifer L. Lemmerman: many people rise up to the occasion. Unfortunately we did this this did turn out to be a fatal car accident and I think it's important that we recognize that there was a man doing his job as a landscaper, Mr. Lopez, who lost his life in this accident, and it was tragic. And one of the things that we saw rise out of that situation was the many people in Melrose that came forward to help, some in the days following the accident in the form of support for Mr. Lopez's family and some that evening, just like Dr. Miller, who, without regard for his own safety and without knowing who it was that he was putting himself in danger for,

Lemmerman: October 3rd 2016 a serious motor vehicle accident occurred on Howard Street in the city of Melrose and whereas Dr. Edward Miller a Howard Street resident heard the accident and immediately went to the scene to offer his help and whereas Dr. Miller without regard for his own safety approached an overturned vehicle after learning that there were children inside and whereas Dr. Miller was able to safely extricate a child from the vehicle and whereas dr miller's quick actions served to remove the child from further potential danger within the vehicle and allowed for swift administration of necessary evaluation and care whereas dr miller's willingness to intervene to assist a stranger in a dangerous situation should serve as an example for all residents now therefore be it resolved that the melrose board of aldermen honor dr edward miller with gratitude and appreciation for his extraordinary actions and be it further resolved that on this day Monday November 21st 2016 this resolution be spread upon the records of the Melrose Board of Aldermen and that a special copy thereof is prepared and presented to dr. Edward this is for you I just

▶ 13:21 Speaker 9: want to say thank you so much I guess I just want to emphasize what the alderman said is that a number of people came out to help in this situation not knowing who exactly were helping and what exactly was going to unfold I actually

▶ 13:44 Speaker 9: been watching the deceased work from my office before the accident. And while I was watching him work, I was wondering about his future in light of the recent issues brought up in the current election.

▶ 14:04 Speaker 9: And then finding out pretty soon after I helped these individuals that he had been killed in the accident on Rosh Hashanah, which is the Jewish New Year.

▶ 14:25 Speaker 9: And it just was pretty intense and very thought-provoking, obviously, both in terms of what happens to people who come to this country to make a better lives for themselves,

▶ 14:45 Speaker 9: terms of people helping strangers and not just myself but but others my neighbors I mean there were a number of people other folks in the cars around around the car that had flipped over and about you know how we could improve the safety of our streets in Melrose this is not the there was a movie there's is another pedestrian who was killed the week before. And from my understanding from my neighbors who had lived on Howard Street for many years, that this is not an uncommon event on Howard Street, which is not nearly as busy as the Linsfeld, but it's pretty busy. And we'd like to see more done to improve the safety for everybody, and especially our children. And having three young kids of my own and seeing actually car seats in action and that they actually work was very sobering and brought it very close to home. But it's something that I would also, I take for granted, we all take for granted, but they do save lives, so thank you.
