Update from Councilor Vandiver regarding Traffic Commission meeting held in March 2026

▶ 2:00:12 Kimberly Vandiver: Thank you. I have a report about the Traffic Commission meeting from March 18th. I am the representative on that body. We had a great meeting. I've served on that commission previously, and just for context for those of you who haven't served there, by far the greatest volume of requests that come there are ones that unfortunately we often cannot say yes to because we have a lot of tight streets in Melrose, and the most common thing is that people would like no parking opposite their own driveway, which would severely limit parking in the city. But at this meeting, we had three topics, and two of them we actually could say yes to. We did say no to a request to further limit parking on the south side of Pleasant Street. But we did approve 10 placards on Pleasant, adjacent to the Lincoln School, for staff members who park there during the day, and in the absence of these placards, were running out every two hours to move their cars. And we also approved stop signs near the hospital at an area that a two-way street becomes a one-way street, and there's a lot going on. It's also a sensitive area with a shuttle and a crosswalk. And the stop signs will give people a little bit more time to realize where they are and not drive the wrong way into a one way. So it was an exciting meeting in that we were able to make some positive changes. Thank you.
