Medeiros: Alderman Medeiros thank you thank you very much President Lemmerman I'm happy to do my first report as the school committee liaison so it just like the Board of Aldermen the school committee has recently reorganized they have a new chair it's Ed O'Connell they also have new committee chairs in place for educational programs and personnel it's elizabeth de selm finance and facilities jen mcandrew policy and planning margaret driscoll and as the board of aldermen has a liaison so does the school committee to our board and that's margaret driscoll who's also the vice chair their last

Medeiros: for the meeting was of course the budget for fy20 mayor inferno was unable to attend and so due to illness and so therefore she had the city solicitor deliver a budget message from her she conveyed that her budget she will provide the school committee or anticipates providing the school committee with a two percent increase over their budget from last year and in order to do that she's anticipating a reduction to the non-school department budget the city side of the budget of six hundred thousand dollars superintendent taymor also presented her

Medeiros: budget message and as you know she is planning to present two budgets one assuming the override passes that's coming up on april 2nd and the other one is assuming that it does not in both cases superintendent tamil will be proposing these budgets with more than one million dollar with more than one million dollar decrease in the applied funds from the school revolving accounts and the details of which are not yet available but the next meeting january 29th which was just about a week from today the school committee will have its first meeting and really get a look at the budgets so i think the public might be interested to know where they can get more information about the school and just like our meetings obviously you can come welcome to be here also on mmtv you can watch at home on the mmtv website mmtv3.org and of course on our website the city of melrose.org website under meeting agenda portal you can see all the different meetings including the school committee agendas and supplemental materials including the superintendent's budget message which is seven pages long and has lots
