Zwirko: please to be here this evening this resolution it reads it's congratulating the Melrose High School marching band on being selected to participate in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington DC in addition to this we also want to congratulate them on their many efforts over the years as well as the entire music program personally for me when I go to the football games on Friday nights it's my favorite moment during halftime usually we're winning so that's always good and it's nice to see the combined efforts that goes into this so and it always improves every home game too so but let me now read the resolution whereas on May 27th 2019 the Melrose High School marching band will participate in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington DC whereas the National Memorial Day parade held annually along Constitution Avenue in our nation's capital shares the story of American honor and sacrifice from across the generations whereas the parade commemorating the 15th year is our nation's largest Memorial Day event with only one high school band being chosen from each state is a very selective process and whereas the Melrose schools have long placed an emphasis on music education and most recently have been recognized for this that sustained commitment Melrose was recently named one of the country's best communities for music education by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation this was the first time Melrose achieved this honor and whereas across Melrose in the 2018-2019 school year 2,840 students participated in the music program and classes whereas the Melrose high school marching band last represented Melrose and Massachusetts in the National Memorial Day parade in 2016 whereas the Melrose band and orchestra participated in an onstage master class at the Symphony Hall with Richard Svoboda in 2017 and whereas the Melrose High School marching band performed at Walt Disney World in 2018 there are 50 students in the in the marching band who will travel to DC for this year's National Memorial Day parade and therefore be it resolved that we the Melrose Board of Aldermen have approved this resolution and congratulate the Melrose High School marching band on this wonderful honor he had further resolved that this resolution be spread upon the records of the city of Melrose and that a special copy be therefore prepared and presented to the Melrose high school marching band thank you very
