▶ 8:58 Speaker 2: um mike would you like to speak briefly um first i'd like to everyone know that i actually wore a tie to the other past time and i didn't think i was gonna be on video this time but um no um with respect to liz um liz is um liz you know the best compliment i can say liz is that she reminds me of a lot of myself she's extremely detail oriented um she accomplishes tasks and cross it off her to-do list um she has a bigger heart than i do um she is genuine and caring and um i could not think of a more appropriate person to better serve melrose on human rights commission

▶ 9:46 Paul Brodeur: finish strong don't finish with me you gotta finish strong um as i talked about you know the that false dichotomy that we sometimes hear Melrose Liz is more on the wifers side of things but as a like Bonnie has an aptitude and appreciation particularly for the needs of diversity inclusion in our education system and as a background that really dovetails with that incredibly well and I will said just because pride was the pride week was mentioned this is not directly relevant to Liz but I've heard a little bit about what the what the HRC is planning and if they can pull off even half of it it is gonna knock our socks off so very much looking forward to that and looking forward to Liz being a part of that event and part of everything about the HRC going forward thank you

▶ 10:48 Speaker 2: for stepping forward if you'd like to say a few words as well sure Thank You Mr. Mayor and thank you Mike. I grew up as Mr. Mayor mentioned I grew up here in Melrose. My parents live just across town a mile and a half away from us and my brother and his family live up in Beverly. When my husband and I were looking for homes we you know had cast our net and nothing felt like home more than Melrose in particular our specific home one of the things so we have two children our son is in second grade and our daughters in kindergarten up at Hoover and one of the things that I've really been reflecting on as a mother difference my childhood neighborhood made in my life our neighborhood It's phenomenally close. I grew up with all of our neighborhood parents as essentially aunts and uncles. I was texting with one of my neighborhood moms. It was my mom's age just this morning. And no matter where I was at any point in my life, I always knew that I belonged in my neighborhood. and I've taken for granted I think for most of my life how important that has been to me and how much that has shaped my life and as a mom now I'm realizing how important it is for children to feel that way to feel like they belong in their neighborhood and like they belong in their community and I feel such a deep calling to serve children but to serve our community and and to make sure that that my experience feeling that sense of belonging is not a unique experience in our city and that everyone who lives here in Melrose is able to feel that they belong and that they're important and that they're respected and cared for when the vacancies were announced on the Human Rights Commission it just feels like a good time for me to step out and and volunteer my are both of our children are now in school and I I had taught kindergarten up until my son was born or who's our older child so I've been at home with the kids now for eight years and I'm looking looking at ways that I can give back to the community that means so much to me and and this felt like it would be a good match thank you for your time tonight thank you

I know one of the things I thought about when I was running for office was you know obviously the impact of my family but second of all was the impact on the Commission. I you know enjoyed my time there and I hope you'll get the same out of it and I know that you you know I volunteered alongside you. You helped a lot of a lot of our events and everything Mike had to say is true. You know your attention to detail and commitment just as a volunteer helping out you know really shows your enthusiasm for this commission so I'm excited for your nomination too thank you thank you
