▶ 3:51 Paul Brodeur: the members of the committee and the members of Protection License Committee I'm before you this evening to offer for your consideration as a nominee to the planning board tim bailey of glenn street right here in melrose as you might imagine um as you can see from mr bailey's resume and from his cover letter he really is an ideal position uh ideal candidate for this position uh he is an architect um by training and by uh and by uh education he is also an adjunct professor of of architecture and um i think importantly in his professional role you should know that he has been before planning boards and uh various in various locations for various reasons on behalf as clients so he certainly knows the process very well and knows quite frankly by professional training and by his membership in the community what the planning board here is all about. Excited to note that he is LEED certified which means that he has a particular training and eye for um energy and environmental concerns as they are related to uh decisions that the the architects make every day and that the planning board considers um in many of its deliberations uh so without further ado i'd like to offer mr bailey for your consideration

▶ 5:42 Speaker 3: at that time i'll turn it over sure uh thank you mayor broder for the amazing introduction i appreciate that um so the reason i mainly was looking to become a part of the planning board is because of my love for architecture um i've been an architect for 17 years now registered for 12 years um i also uh you know in architecture you can either go kind of towards a project management role or kind of a design role and a design role is usually where i go and so i have a lot of you know aesthetic things that i can add to the planning board i've i've talked to a bunch of members of the planning board that are there currently and i think it's already a great diverse group of people and i think i could be an additional integral piece of that of the planning

▶ 7:11 Robb Stewart: pizza as opposed to very different right because i it's so i had to do a double take before i actually figured that out that was actually um kind of a high-powered uh architecture anyways i just wanted to um welcome you to this and and uh you have my support from uh From my perspective, and look forward to seeing both in the neighborhood as well as on the planning board. ▶ 7:40 Jen Grigoraitis: Thank you, Mr. Chair and thank you Mayor Broder for this appointment for consideration and to Mr. Bailey for both putting your name forward and your willingness to lend a significant amount of your time and your expertise to such an important role in our community. I honestly think there is no harder working group in this city than the planning board. So Thank you for your willingness to step up and do that just given your design background. And I think some of the issues before the city at large, including the fact that. We actually saw a gain in population of about 3000 residents. Between the 2010 and 2020, which is in large part due to the smart growth that we've seen in our community, which the planning board plays a role in. Can you talk a little bit about. What, if any vision or ideas you have, or you would look for, for projects coming before Melrose as we continue to try to meet our need to increase housing.

▶ 8:31 Speaker 3: Yeah, I've actually been watching a lot of the remote planning board sessions already and I know that affordable housing and the access to transportation and all that stuff is is a key element to that. I was actually watching 1 of the proposals for. for that type of project, I believe was on Pleasant Street. And so I think, you know, while my vision, I think I still need to kind of understand more of what the planning board has already been discussing in past months, but I think that there is an effective way to, you know, bring more housing into Melrose, but do it in a tactful way.
