▶ 1:34 Paul Brodeur: is our seniors and our Council on Aging we as you recall, we well not that recently expanded the membership of the council to in an effort to get some more diversity and some more experience from the community into that into that Council because as we know there is no such thing as a senior there are folks that are facing very challenging issues around health and nutrition. There are folks that are retired and maybe not so retired and looking for that next thing to do and we need to service them all and that is why I'm excited to have a couple of folks step forward and Evan Mrs. Nevin couldn't be here this evening about I suspect most of not all of you know of Janet from many activities in the community. She's
▶ 2:23 Paul Brodeur: really done at all. Been involved in Substance Abuse Prevention. She's been involved in chamber work. She has been involved in. The bridge the alliance against violence the Community Coalition from Melrose the Common Ground teen center and that's just kind of her named portfolio. She's also available at just about any time to help with anything. You might need. She has been she raised a couple of kids here in Melrose with her husband Joe serves on our on our Liquor Commission. The kids are out of the house and doing fantastic. And this is an opportunity for Janet to do what she has done for so much for life in the community and that is give back this in this case to our senior population. The second and last item on our agenda tonight order 2022-140 appointment of Kristen Thorpe of 77 Wentworth road to the city of Melrose Council on Aging board for three year term said term to expire on the last day of February 2025. Starters with us tonight if you want to both like to speak. Again, thank you very much. Hopefully you all are very familiar with the work of Ms. Thorpe. I toured the idea of trying to get her back involved in the school committee in some way. That was a hard. No for those. You don't know she served in the
▶ 4:04 Paul Brodeur: hardest position in Melrose city government as a member of the school committee for I want to say 11 or 12 years many of those as chair didn't exemplary job both as an education Advocate and someone who could move forward to debate sometimes when it is very challenging to do so in her private sector she is essentially a software expert and you probably all know where most recently from her experience running SDM, which I will let her describe in more detail, but it is a incredible free resource for folks that may struggle with tech in all the ways that it can enter that can enter your life. She has she has offered this community a tremendous amount of her time. And energy and expertise and she is willing to step up
▶ 4:54 again. So I suggest that we jump on this as fast as we can. Don't know how much I can say beyond what he said STM is a labor of love in the best job in the world. We help people of All walks they don't have to be Melrose citizens. They don't have to be old. They don't have to have income levels. Everything we do is free. We say that our clients skew older but you know, everybody has something to learn we have lots of kids classes over the summer. We help small businesses and nonprofits develop websites and figure out how to do social media and all of that but our bread and butter is helping people who need to use their phone or their emails not coming in on their computer or they want to learn Excel to get a better job or whatever it is.
▶ 5:51 So total feel good job. I love it. I love this city. My husband's on the zoning board. We're we raised three kids here and Melrose schools did them proud and we're really happy to be here and I love our relationship with the senior center, and I'm really happy to be able to help in this way. Counselor Stewart. Yeah, Mr. Chair. It's great to see a award 3 resident come to come to us again.
