▶ 0:00 John N. Tramontozzi: Thank you and good evening. It's Monday, August 16th, 2021 at 640 p.m. and this is the meeting of the Public Service Committee. I am Councilor Tramontozzi, the Chair, and joining me this evening are Vice Chair, Councilors McMaster, and voting Member of this committee, Councilors Jamaleddine, Garipay, Thomas, and President Ex oficio, this evening christopher sanella also in attendance and non-voting Member are counselors rigoritis counselors migliori and i think that's it forgive me i need these glasses comes with age this takes the place of an attendance roll call and this provides notice of the quorum for the record in accordance with the open meeting law this meeting is being recorded in broadcast on our local cable access channel mmtv as well as live stream through the mmtv3.org

Tramontozzi: it will be available for future viewing through the city of melrose's website meeting portal as well uh also joining us uh this evening is counselor echoes a non-voting member of this committee so at this time um do i have a motion for a public comment motion public comment there's a motion is there a second second seconded by a motion for a public comment by president sanella seconded by councillor mcmaster uh this is the all in favor any opposed certainly not this is the opportunity for any Member of the public who wish to come forward to speak on any items on the public service committee agenda which there is one item uh is there anybody in the public who wishes to come forward okay close public participation we get one person i'll check

Tramontozzi: sorry sure if you'd like to speak to public comment at public service would you raise your digital hand no one raising their hand okay with that in mind and seeing no Member of the public here present nor on um on the video available we do have a motion to close public comment by uh councillor Garipay or second seconded by president sanella all in favor any opposed seeing none we are closed for public comment we have one order on the agenda this evening order number 2022-8 it's the appointment of gwendoline orford 28 otis street to the conservation commission said term to expire on the last day of february 2024. i would entertain a motion to suspend the rules so we can hear from the administration and the candidate herself motion
▶ 3:16 Paul Brodeur: to suspend the rules we get a motion to suspend the rules by president senella seconded by councillor Garipay all in favor any posting none we are under suspension of rules um with that in mind um we would invite the candidate and uh his excellency the honorable mayor uh with us this evening mr mayor brodo brodo how are you i am well mr chairman good to see you thank you i'm glad to see that you survived your brief sojourn into the west coast which i know i've returned it was a it was an experience a unique set of challenges out there to be sure hopefully we won't be wrestling with here but i knew i do know that you saw some very entertaining and talented uh performers during your time out west um doing some summer stock and that is uh terrific thank you thank
▶ 4:10 Paul Brodeur: you for indulging me uh so i am delighted to be here um to talk to you about um miss orford's candidacy for the conservation commission uh hopefully you've had a chance to review her resume because it is um it makes it easy quite frankly to understand her qualifications and interest in the position and we're talking about a candidate that has a master's degree in sustainability and sustainability management and also currently on a path towards getting a public policy masters from merrimack college a little bit to our north she is certainly by both academic training and her volunteer experience is uniquely qualified to step into this role and i am delighted to offer her candidacy for the commission and with that is over i turn it over to
▶ 5:07 Paul Brodeur: you thank you very much i appreciate it thank you everyone for having me here this evening i'm excited to be here my path through life so far has been anything but direct i've lived through a lot of different experiences both academically professionally volunteer-wise personally but no matter what i experience two things have remained constant both my interest my passion and my involvement with environmental affairs as well as public affairs and so that's what brings me here today both of those have remained constant and i believe that they're culminating in this position being able to combine those together is an incredible opportunity for me and this position i hope is the start of what i believe will be a very passionate career well thank we we do

Tramontozzi: appreciate your um your coming forward and to uh to volunteer for this position we have uh we do have a copy of your resume that's on file and um i am i have had the opportunity to review it myself and as the mayor suggested very impressive and i think it would be a a good addition to the the board but i would open up for any questions that any Member of this uh committee have and it's a good sign maybe that there are no questions hopefully so with that in mind we do we have a motion yes motion to recommend motion to recommend second by uh councillor mcmaster seconded by councillor Garipay on that motion to recommend your appointment all in favor any opposing none opposed we will move this forward to the full board which will act on the appointment with
