This is Monday, February 12th, the hour being at 7.30 p.m. This is the Committee on Protection and License, City of Melrose, Board of Aldermen. This meeting, as well as all of our meetings, are being recorded pursuant to the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law and is available for public viewing. We have a number of items on the agenda, but we're going to need them. Oh, just an introduction. Thank you. My name is Alderman John Tramontozzi, the chairman, and with us this evening is also Alderman Monica Medeiros, the vice chairperson, Alderman Robert Boisselle, Alderman Peter Mortimer, Alderman President, ex-officio member Michael Zwerchow. Those are all voting members of this committee.

It's the appointment of Jeffrey Parenti, 29 Trenton Street, to the Traffic Commission to fill the unexpired term of John Ford. Motion to recommend. That's resigned from the commission, said term to expire on the first Monday of June, 2020. Motion to recommend for passage, Mr. Chairman. Second. Mr. Parenti, would you like to come forward, please? Well, we want to thank you for coming forward this evening and serving the city of Melrose in this capacity. I know we have, as part of the order, a very significant resume that you have produced for us, very good. Would you like to make an opening statement and make a couple statements? Sure, thank you, Mr. Chairman, members of the committee. Thank you for inviting me tonight, it's a pleasure to be here. I am very interested in serving the city and the Traffic Commission for two major reasons.
▶ 3:13 First being traffic safety. Traffic safety is something that's very important to me. I have two daughters at the Lincoln School, and in less than two years, one of them will be walking by herself to the middle school, so that's a little scary. She'll be crossing West Wyoming Avenue, so anything I can do to make her trip safer and it'll give me a little bit more peace of mind, and all the other students who, of course, walk to all of our schools would be something I'm interested in. And the second is, Melrose is one of the most walkable cities in Massachusetts that I've seen, and that's something I would like to keep going. The city's already going in the right direction between the Complete Streets program that's
▶ 3:56 already started, which is an excellent step in the right direction, and of course setting the citywide speed limit to 25 miles an hour is another. But I think there's more to be done, and I'd like to be a part of what happens next, and happy to have the opportunity to serve the traffic commission and I want to bring my experience and my expertise to both the Commission in the city to help serve the people of Melrose and in my own neighbors very good thank you is there any questions from any member of the committee voting member non-voting member I'm sorry thank you mr. chairman I just want to say thank you for stepping up and volunteering for this it's a you know and they meet quarterly but the meetings can be quite lively as I'm sure you know but you have an

It's the appointment of Thomas John Myers of 142 Leslie Road in Raleigh to the position of constable for three year term, said term to expire on the first Monday in February 2021. Would you like to come forward, Mr. Myers? Good evening, I'd like to say a few words about your potential appointment here. Well, excuse me, I grew up in Melrose on School Street.
▶ 6:22 Moved out originally, moved to Saugus and then later on to Rowley. I've always been a part of the Melrose community, having worked part-time at Patroni's on Main Street in Melrose while going to school. But I've always been big into the community. Coming back from the National Guard training, combat medic training, I decided to take up being a medic with Cataldo Ambulance Services, who also provide EMS response into Melrose when a couple of their medic trucks go out or respond to other calls. So I'd like to find myself within the Melrose community quite often and I'm just looking forward to extend my criminal justice background towards becoming a constable and future sheriff's department officer

So what we have here just for the public is just their standard common victual licenses to be renewed throughout the city for various establishments and that is on the motion to recommend to be placed on file.
