▶ 45:05 executive office of public safety and securities highway and safety division to fund number 4023 we are under suspension of the rules already we do have with us chief lyle this evening chief would you be willing to come forward and speak to this certainly thank you uh appreciate you coming this evening I'm certainly pleased to present this as well as I do as everybody in this room receives phone calls about speeding complaints and various other traffic complaints throughout the city so this is certainly going to support the police department through eops the executive office of public safety this $7,500 grant is broken into three phases phase one is going to be distracted driving which will begin early next month run through pretty much the whole
▶ 46:00 month the second phase will begin in May which will be for speed clicker to ticket everybody sees the campaigns that are presented on TV throughout throughout the year and the last phase will be for operating on the influence whether it's drugs or alcohol which will begin late August and end just after Labor Day thank you anyone from the committee have a question for the chief just there's one point there is a no match to this grant as well there is a no match no match no match to this grant all right thank you president Khan yeah chief um I have a constituent who reminds me frequently that we've discussed over the many years that we've been talking about getting the mounted display of speed
▶ 46:50 affixed to pull devices for we've been talking about it for many years this grant apparently is not something that would be amenable to that we do we have anything in the works I'm pleased to announce it and I've talked to Alderman Lemmerman about it that I've used federal drug money to purchase a unit it's approximately $2,500 it's solar powered self-contained and that will be the first location is on Howard Street and we can move it around the city and I would think if more assets are seized and we have the opportunity would be by an additional units but how the street is certainly gonna be the first location okay thank you and I apologize madam chairman I'm off topic and I probably ruled myself out of order if I was cheering her meeting but I needed to ask

Thank you very much, Chief, for that and for the aforementioned Howard Street blinking sign in the future. Could you talk a little bit about what this grant will mean in terms of manpower? The traffic sergeant, Sergeant Gawk, I know most of you are familiar with him. He was certainly instrumental in us getting this grant. He has it planned out that it There will be about nine overtimes, four hour overtime, four hour blocks that we will be out enforcement. And under the first campaign where it's distracted driving. So they'll be looking for folks generally texting behind the wheel.
▶ 48:28 Gail Infurna: Operators that are using the cell phone, doing various other tasks, that type of violation. That's number one. Number two is obviously clicker to ticket. If you don't wear your seatbelt, you may run into one of the officers. lastly is our OUI program which has been out in the past for Labor Day weekend thank you thank you I'll demand for Anna madam chairman thank you chief for coming this evening as a long-standing member of the traffic Commission I have heard those complaints and I just want to thank you for going out and seeking these grants and really trying to work with our neighborhoods to you know bring safety to to the streets of Melrose so thank you for for all that you do and if the committee will indulge me chief you did say something about speed so will
▶ 49:24 all of them have a speed component involved in it as far as the campaigns yes yes I would think that if an officer is set up with radar and he's looking for observations for somebody distracted driving and someone goes by with an accelerated speed in that area certainly that person is going to get an introduction from an officer because as I'm sure most everyone in on the board is where we all get a lot of calls about that so thank you and we had a motion to recommend by alderman Boisselle seconded by alderman lemon all in favor opposed this would be recommended to the full board and we appreciate your work on it is there a motion to adjourn all in favor committee is adjourned stay tuned for HEW, I believe.
