With us this evening from the committee, Alderman Infurna, Alderman Medeiros and Alderman Lemmerman, who are about to take their seats. Thank you very much. And President Conn. Non-voting members of the committee, Alderman Mortimer and Alderman Forbes. Thank you, sister. Do we have a motion to open the floor for public participation? So moved. Is there a second? Second. All in favor? Aye. If there's anybody this evening who would like to come forward to speak on any of our orders in the Protection and License Committee, please feel free to do so now. Aye. and i should just also announce that in accordance with the massachusetts general laws this committee is being broadcast and taped and is available for future viewing on the city website and the mmtv website okay the first order of business that we have is zero order number two zero one six dash eight it's an application for a class two motor vehicle license to peter varone jr doing business as jp's auto sales llc at 735 broadway also known as the newburyport turnpike in melrose motion to suspend the rules so we may hear from the applicant second alderman Lemmerman moves and alderman Medeiros seconds to suspend the rules so we could hear from mr varone thank you
▶ 1:54 very much if you would come forward sir yes please and lady hi how are you this evening how are you how are you good how are you would you like to tell us um a little bit about your background and your business and what you're hoping to do in melrose i'm 25 years old um i own a couple pieces of three family in chelsea and i'm just kind of looking to start another venue and um try the used car lot and kind of freshen up that lot a little bit because it doesn't have the best name anyway used to be carvo's auto sales so you guys heard about it okay may i yeah would you introduce your my name is melissa mercado i'm here um with pj or peter as not only a family friend but I helped to advise with business and ventures he's since his
▶ 2:49 child has he's been interested in cars with his father rebuilding them and so forth and gone to auctions with friends and and got into really the interest of the business itself through that I think he's a little nervous this evening and explaining you know how he got there but when he found this lot and it was in a bit of trouble I'd be on it was a little upside down and in his inventory found an opportunity to to find a little niche there to where you could not only freshen up the inventory bring in a different type of clientele and be an asset to the community your community thank you do we have any committee members that who have any questions so this business is on is it like down on Broadway kind of near where the old smiley Buick was across the street it's
▶ 3:46 Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis: um in front of the town line in okay so right by the town line in and your hope is to open when after you get the license the license is received start resuming business immediately and beginning a true transition okay all the minute front oh thank you how many cars do you plan on having there do you have limit on the cars and 22 car license 22 yes i'm not quite picturing the spot but no i understand that's okay it's route one so okay thank you anyone else uh it does appear as though um all of your city work is in order do we have a motion to approve so moved second alderman Medeiros moves to approve seconded by alderman Lehman lemmerman all in favor aye aye that um application is now approved it will go to the full board uh actually later this evening so um you're welcome to stay

Thank you. The next order on the agenda is 2016-9, Hackney Carriage Taxi Licenses, renewed commencing May 1st, 2015. This is basically just a report of the licenses that were renewed. I'm not making a motion. um madam chairman would you check um to determine how whether all of our hackney licenses have currently been issued and report back to the full board please i would be happy to do so thank you i do see that there are some that were not renewed
▶ 5:37 Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis: were you questioning some of the others that may be kind of i'd just like to know from my edification and that of the board is still how many licenses are not out right now all right i'm sure we can get that information for you uh are there any other any other discussion do we have a motion to approve motion to recommend to place on file is there a second second um alderman Medeiros recommends to place this on file seconded by alderman Lehman all in favor opposed and that order will be referred also to the full committee the second next order we have is 2016 11 delivery license car services that have been renewed and again this is the same thing it's basically a report of the licenses that are out there the individual cars and owners that we are
▶ 6:37 Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis: off that we grant permits under the livery license orders is there any discussion motion to recommend to place on file second Alderman Medeiros recommends to place on file seconded by Alderman Lehman all in favor opposed that order will also be recommended to the full board sorry it was all the same i believe oh i'm sorry we did i apologize so 2016-10 is the hackney licenses not renewed so these would be licenses that we previously issued and the owners were no longer looking to renew them for whatever reason motion to recommend a place on file alderman Lemmerman recommends to place this order on file is there a second i second alderman inferna seconds that all in favor aye opposed that again will be recommended to the full board next we

Medeiros: have 2 0 1 6 12 delivery car service license is not renewed motions place on file second and Ferna moves to place that on file seconded by alderman Lehman is there any discussion alderman Medeiros thank you I see that we have the city clerk here I was just curious what our process is this is somewhat of a new license for us and what our prices process is are we alerting the license holders that their license is up for a renewal is it just up to them to renew on their own thank you and I believe there is only one that it was not renewed correct okay and alderman uh president khan yeah we uh we go through this every year and people at home watching should understand that these licenses are renewed administratively
▶ 8:45 Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis: by the city clerk and what we're doing is just making them a part of our record by placing them on file so we're not actually approving any licenses uh for hackney uh cabs or liveries or anything of that nature today so tonight so this is purely a record-keeping matter thank you president khan the next order is 2016-13 it's the gasoline and storage licenses that were renewed commencing may 1st 2015. motion to place on file second inferno moves to place this order on file is there a second second seconded by alderman Lehman any discussion on on this order all in favor aye opposed that will also be recommended to the full board next is 2 0 1 6 dash 1 4 the gasoline and license storage is not renewed for 2015 and again I believe there are just two of these do we have a

That order will be recommended to the full board. We also have, finally, order 2016-15, secondhand dealer licenses that were renewed commencing May 1st. These are primarily our resale stores, some of our jewelers that have licenses. Again, as President Kahn has pointed out, this is an administrative function and we are basically just making this part of our record. Do we have a motion? Motion to place on file. Second.
