This funding request is for five new police officers that are replacing officers that have separated, separated as retired, and we have one officer that is due to transfer out to a department in Westfield, Mass. family is moving west and he is going with them so that's what it is i am available for questions on any of the items that you may want to take a look at thank you chief it's nice to see you in person

▶ 13:02 Speaker 3: here uh just a couple questions what um what's your staffing now is this are you still under where you were at the beginning of the year with these i mean i could be i could be you know very redirect and say yeah there's supposed to be x number per ordinance but um i don't know if we'll ever reach that number so right now we have 32 patrolmen these five will obviously bolster us but as they come they go come july the end of july we're going to lose three more retirements transfers there's a new trend out there now that if an officer moves to another community they take the civil service test they do very well then it's not a transfer they can and just walk out because the city has the right to restrict somebody from transfer.

▶ 13:53 Ryan Williams: For the benefit of the public, could you explain the line for police uniforms and the cost associated with that?

▶ 14:06 Speaker 3: That is approximately $3,600 per officer, comes out to about 18,000, a change.

▶ 14:15 Ryan Williams: For police uniforms, the line in the memo is 65,000.

▶ 14:18 Speaker 3: Well, no, there's a number of other parts that's involved. I mean, I can talk about the baton, the firearm, the holster, and it's all broken down that way. That's what that total number is.

▶ 14:59 Manjula Karamcheti: gotcha thanks counselor carm cheney hi juke lyle thank you so much for being here thank you and everything you do for our community so being that i'm a little newer to all of this as you know what is the process for recruiting new officers and what is the training like

▶ 15:16 Speaker 3: what do they have to go through so let's start so we we call for a list this started these this group here started last October we get a list we do we vet them we go through the backgrounds criminal checks personal checks computer checks social media checks past that they move to the next step then it's a physical they all pass the physical then it's a psychological evaluation and then they have a they call it a path test a pre-academy test they have to run a mile the next number you know minutes push-ups set up so on and so forth then they go to the academy and then they go through that test again for the state standards then they have to pass the post commission uh background check and then they go to the academy they're they're going to start the academy on the 8th excuse me the 19th of this month they'll be there for 20 weeks after 20 weeks they graduate sometime in october and then they'll do 10 or 12 weeks field training program so start to finish it's about a year sorry that's a lot and as quick as i could say it no that's great um but just then

▶ 16:15 Manjula Karamcheti: how and i apologize for not knowing maybe i should but then those who graduate from the academy do we automatically get them as a city then there's like what is the rest of the process like so so after

▶ 16:25 Speaker 3: they graduate the academy there's a field training program so they get acclimated community they'll they'll be paired with another officer for 10 to 12 weeks after that period evaluations every week they do well they go out on their own unfortunately most of them go to midnights
