▶ 28:28 Margaret Raymond Driscoll: Next on our agenda this evening is the announcements of the school committee chair and I would invite any outreach reports,

▶ 28:38 Speaker 4: Great. I just wanted to share that the literacy leadership team, or task force, I should say, um, has now met yet again in December. I'm really thrilled We've gone through three professional developments. We've also been working with researcher Dr. Tiffany Hogan to really continue to understand research-based best practices aligned to literacy. And we are moving forward with thinking about what is our vision, what is our hope as we begin to consider pre-K through five literacy instruction in Melrose. So more to come but excited on where we've been thus far.

▶ 29:10 Paul Brodeur: Just to follow on to, um, Ms. Worthy's comments in the work of the literacy literacy leadership team. Um, so recent, um, analysis coverage reports of literacy education and the Commonwealth paints a pretty dimm picture. My memory is that the folks that evaluate such things suggest that two thirds of the curricula deployed in various districts are crap, for lack of a better way to, um, describe it. And there is, uh, legislation on Beacon Hill to, uh, it's a couple of ways to potentially rectify that with some, um, potential leadership out of dsi or some other areas of some other folks of expertise. Um, the committee has always been interested in weighing in on, um, statewide issues and legislation up at the State House. Um, I think it would be terrific. Obviously we won't be here anymore, but I think that is a, um, valuable opportunity to kind of make a mark in that, um, show off some of the work that we're doing locally with, uh, with Dory's Group. And particularly since the senate chair is our state senator, the state, uh, the senate chair, the education committee, uh, we have a real opportunity not just in this issue necessarily, but this is certainly one that will well equipped that is super important and, um, is a real deficit, I think, statewide in the way we're pursuing things. It's not a criticism of what's going on here in Melrose, uh, but there is some great work going on. And if we can, uh, help our brothers and sisters across the state, move that forward by weighing in, I think that would be a great use of the committee's time.

▶ 30:59 Speaker 2: Just wanna, Ms. Rosie Thomas, I just wanna thank Ms. Whitie for all the work that you've been doing on the task force. It's great. Oh, thank you. It's really, really great. And I can't wait to see how it plays out with the district over the next three to five years.
