▶ 7:17 Kimberly Vandiver: uh, tonight we have, uh, Ms. VAs from the city, uh, engineering department and a Verizon representative here to speak with us. Uh, would you please, uh, address the members, uh, and present the proposal?

▶ 7:35 Speaker 6: Yes. Good evening. Honorable members of the Public Works Committee of the city of Melrose. Name is Alexander Lasting Marrero, M-A-R-R-E-R-O, resident Senting Cross Street in Malboro, Massachusetts, an employee of Pike, PIKE, telecom and renewables, LLC, an authorized contract of Verizon, new England Incorporated. Been asked to speak by Verizon about the petition in front of you this evening. Verizon is hereby petitioning to place four four inch PVC concrete in case converts starting for existing manhole 68 located on the town line with the city of Mel of Malden, and running approximately 421 feet in a north northerly direction to existing manhole 15. Horizon is hereby requesting this petition as the existing duck bank between those two condos is collapsing. We are trying to run new cabling through that network.

▶ 8:44 Mark Garipay: Um, just to be clear, you, you're running from one manhole to the other. You're not gonna be ripping up any, any of the street down there or,

▶ 8:52 Speaker 6: Well, as part of the installation process, we'll be digging a three foot trench in order to place in the conduit network between the two manholes

▶ 9:05 Mark Garipay: And I guess Ms. Reese Main Street. Um, barely it's been, when was the last time that was paved? Are we gonna a curb to curb down there being the, because such a busy street or

▶ 9:14 Speaker 7: That part of Main Street is outside of the area that was just repaved a couple of years ago. Um, they will do temporary restoration now because of the weather. Um, and we'll have them come back in the spring and, and do more permanent, but it won't be curb to curb.

▶ 9:30 Speaker 2: Will it be from the middle, middle at least the middle of the road to the sidewalk? I mean to

▶ 9:35 Speaker 7: The curb. The, the location of the duck bank is pretty close to the sidewalk. Um, so I believe that we

▶ 9:46 Speaker 7: had said, um, yeah, our, our, um, our standard is one foot outside the trench to the curb line if it's that close to the curb. So it most likely will not be all the way to the center line.

▶ 10:01 Mark Garipay: So looking on the map, the dark, uh, solid black line is the curb or is it the dotted line on the map?

▶ 10:08 Speaker 7: The, the dark solid line is the curb?

▶ 10:13 Speaker 6: Yes. The dotted line D notes the property line between public and private way.

▶ 10:19 Mark Garipay: And is that on the side of the street that we just did all the painting for the bike lanes?

▶ 10:26 Speaker 7: It is, and if those are disturbed, those can be replaced.

▶ 10:30 Mark Garipay: If we're only doing a foot on either side and over time we tend to see that those trenches tend to sink. I would, I would think, you know, it's not found, not packed down Good. Where if we went from the middle of the street to the curb, are we gonna, is it gonna be any pedestrian safety issues with, with bikes?

▶ 10:50 Speaker 7: Well, letting it sit over the winter will actually help with some of those settling effects. And so then when they come back in the spring and mill it and repave it, there shouldn't be any settlement.

▶ 11:07 Manjula Karamcheti: Could you remind me when the work is anticipated to start and how long it'll take?

▶ 11:12 Speaker 6: Uh, I don't have a particular date, obviously we're trying to beat the winner at this point. Uh, as it should take based on footage, it should be about two weeks of work, basically,

▶ 11:30 Speaker 6: once they start from when they, uh, put complete the, uh, temporary repairs as she, as she mentioned. And then in the spring we'll do the more permanent repairs. So that's gonna be another week.

▶ 11:41 Manjula Karamcheti: Ms. Ms, maybe this is a question for you, but just thinking about, um, how different departments in the city work together around redirecting traffic during that time, given the location is one that's pretty heavily track trafficked between Melrose and Malden, just thinking about how that will be set up and, you know, safety for bikers, pedestrians and cars sort of in that area since it's so busy.

▶ 12:09 Speaker 7: Yeah, they're responsible for having a traffic safety plan following M-U-T-C-D standards, setting up that traffic management plan and maintaining safety for pedestrian cyclists. That's part of the conditions.

Um, this may be covered in that, uh, aforementioned plan, but do you imagine that there are any, uh, bus stops on the, I I can't remember which route is on there. Is it the 1 31, 1 36, 1 37 on the stops on that area? Do you imagine any of those would be affected within

▶ 12:45 Speaker 7: That 421 feet? Yeah. Um, I do not know the answer to that question. We can look into it.

▶ 12:55 Speaker 6: I dunno that either. Any other counselors? No, I don't know that I'm not familiar with the area, So I don't know. We'll check into

▶ 13:09 Robb Stewart: Madam Chairman on voting member, but I wanna provide some feedback. Uh, I do concur with, uh, council Rae's concern regarding, um, disturbing the, the, the bike lane. Uh, I think, you know, it's somewhat pristine now. Uh, and once you start digging into it, it's never the same, uh, particularly if you do not go from curb to a certain person out. And from that standpoint, uh, it, it's concerning. Thank you, Madam Chair.

▶ 13:58 Kimberly Vandiver: Um, and, uh, if, if I may ask one question, um, will any of the a budding areas, including Pine Banks Park or the businesses, will access to them be impacted during, during that time?

▶ 14:12 Speaker 7: Um, there will be, there will be some, uh, Lawson parking. Um, the work is all in the street, so, uh, sidewalk and the, and the entrances to those businesses will be open and we'll make sure that the contractor maintains, um, access in and out of any driveways.
