Update on the Clerk of Committees Search

▶ 28:54 Speaker 1: Good evening, counselors. I just wanted to take the time to just give you a brief little update on what we've accomplished. Um, since October when I started. Prior to that, I know there was another search for a clerk of committees when there was other people that were sitting in the roles in the clerk department. Um, so I think back in August, um, there was the original search of the Clerk of committees when Andrew took another role to be the city clerk in Natick that left that position open. Um, a little after that, obviously we had a couple of people that left that department, and then I stepped in in October, and that search was basically put on hold for a little while. Um, but originally when there was a search back in August, um, I do know that it was posted citywide, um, via our Melrose website. It was on indeed the partnership, mass Municipal Organization, pink jobs.com and Amar Amaru job board. Um, at that time, uh, we had received 19 applicants, um, going through the applicants. And the way that HR does it is that they do send, um, everything, um, just their resumes, but we actually don't know the name. So we just wanna look to see the qualifications. And then we go through that. And out of that, they were three people that were selected and there were interviews. I think everything was basically put on ice because there was some shifting of administration and they just didn't wanna make that call. So when I took over in October, I just kind of absorbed all of those responsibilities of the city, um, clerk as well as the, um, the clerk of committees. Uh, once I was appointed in December, we were able to start to get the ball rolling and start to develop the team, um, under the clerk's office with an assistant clerk, a clerk, and, and, uh, elections as well as the Clerk of Committees. At that time, once again, we, um, put the same exact job description back. Well, we actually changed it. We changed it a little bit. It used to be a full-time position. We now made it 18 hours a week. Um, and I know that that will work for the council. I've been doing the job and I know that that's all we need and it should be working out fine. Um, we attracted the second time around 25 applicants. Um, we again used the same, um, sources, the, you know, citywide to all the employees, the City of Melrose's website, indeed the partnership, mass Municipal Organization, pink Jobs and Amru. Um, at that time, uh, we were able to interview three people. The hiring committee, um, conducted like, like I said earlier, um, a blind review of the applications. We just look at the people's qualifications. Once we like them, then I'm able to, um, to get, you know, a a bigger picture, uh, of who they are, bring them in, interview them. And at this time I'm very happy, um, to announce that Adrian, um, has been working really, really closely with actually our office. Um, she, she helped me so much with elections. Um, she's also currently been helping me with all of the census. Um, so, and she's been in the mayor's office for over a year now, volunteering her time up there as well. So she's, um, really getting to know all of our residents and our processes under the city clerk. And a little bit of the mayor's office as well. She has an extensive background and I'll turn it to her so she can just give you a little, um, brief background on who she is and what she's done.

As Tangie said, I've been involved recently with other things in City Hall and it's been really interesting and I've really enjoyed the job there and working with all the people there, uh, prior. And I am a resident of Melrose. Uh, bought a house here right when we got married in 1989. Thought it was our starter home and we're still in the same house. So we love the community. It's a great area. It's a wonderful town. Uh, prior to this, my, I have an engineering degree and my career was in high tech sales. It was, it's an electrical engineering degree. So I, I sold semiconductor chips for many years with Motorola, which is a different company now. But, uh, so this is a, a slightly different thing, but I've always liked working with people. Uh, so I'm really looking forward to joining your team and working for all of you. So thank you.

▶ 33:36 Leila Migliorelli: You, Mr. Chair. Thank you. Um, Madam Clerk and, um, uh, Adrian for being here. Um, I've heard wonderful things about you from both, um, the clerk and from the mayor's office. So we're very excited to have someone on board. 'cause, um, as, um, uh, Tangie mentioned, we have, you know, reduced the role to make it fit right size, budget conscious, um, for the city's needs. And, um, but we still, we still needed this gap to fill, um, working and helping to support the council. Um, I dunno if you wanna talk a little bit about you. You know, this job is very detail oriented and, and focused and, um, you know, there are certain things that need to happen at a certain time because of our laws and rules. Um, just want to hear maybe a little bit about your experiences and working in like, detail oriented environments.

▶ 34:26 Speaker 3: Uh, when I had my high tech sales job, I was an account manager, so I was responsible for pretty much everything involved at, you know, ensuring that you're designing in product in a timely manner, addressing problems. Uh, I dealt with engineers, I dealt with purchasing departments. Uh, we had to keep our own schedule, our own time. Many of the things we dealt with were NDAs, uh, non-disclosure. So, you know, privacy is something I've been used to and confidentiality. Uh, I dealt with all different levels of organizations. Also, you know, I, I deal with a, you know, an engineering level along with VP levels, uh, things like that. I would have to coordinate meetings with internal factory people, with the customers and the clients. And then, uh, toward the end of the career, a lot of my customers were global. So I would work with a global sales team coordinating what someone's doing in Asia versus what I'm doing here. A lot of times manufacturing would've been somewhere else in the world. So I, I feel like I've done a really good job in my whole career of paying attention to detail, that's for sure. I definitely had to do that and work with a lot of different people, different personalities and different countries. So, looking forward to, hopefully I have the skills for it, so.
