▶ 18:30 Peter D. Mortimer: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Peter Mortimer. This is President Donald Kahn of the Board of Aldermen. On December 6th, as you all know, you went to the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium, bringing great honor and prestige to our city. We have intended to give these resolutions to you. I have over 90 resolutions. They're very nice resolutions on fine quality paper and mounted in very nice blue outlines. And I have over 90 of them here for all the members of the team. I'm not going to read the names of every member of the team, but I would like to mention that we do have the captains here, Zach Mercer, Jack Hickey, and Chris Deva that we had in at Rotary on the Thanksgiving Day, the Thursday before the Thanksgiving game with our president, Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis.

▶ 19:32 Peter D. Mortimer: We also have five people whose parents played in the Super Bowl in 1982 with quarterback Doug Prentice, a longtime person. We have the two Corrales boys, the McLaughlin boy, Jack Mercer, and Jack Hickey, whose parents all played on that team. Now, that's amazing enough in itself, but they started having Super Bowls. The MIAA started having Super Bowls in 1972, and twice, only twice, has a Melrose team made it all the way to the Super Bowl.

▶ 20:12 Peter D. Mortimer: So out of that over 40 years, 43 years, you are one of two teams that have ever brought the honor to the city. You guys are a special team, and I'd like you to give yourselves a round of applause.

▶ 20:32 Peter D. Mortimer: Now, Coach Tim Morris is here, and Coach Tim Morris graduated from Melrose High in 1978, played under the famous, you can look him up on Wikipedia, Coach Joe Hogue. He's a very famous guy. And he started coaching, Coach Morris started coaching at Melrose High in 1983, and he became the head coach in 1994. And what a beautiful gift for his 20-year anniversary that you gentlemen were able to get him to the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. That's really an honor, and we want to thank Coach Tim Morris for 20 years of great service.

We also have resolutions that are going in no particular order to the coaches, Tim Morris, James Kent, Wayne Randolph, Jim Bleiler, Kevin Fassett, and Trevor Rudolph. Gene Melto and Brendan Kent, and also to the trainer, Steve Mirasolo, and our Director of Athletics, Pat Ruggiero, who has greatly enhanced our athletic program in all aspects, football and all other sports, here at Melrose High. She's done a great job. So I'm going to read one of the sample resolutions. they're all the same except the names are changed so you'll always have one of these yeah it's always good you don't have to write your own name in this is a classy outfit uh so i'm going to read one of the samples and then the coaches can give them all to you later but it's a very special honor the one i just happened to have on top as it was given to me by Our city clerk, Mary Reader O'Shea, is the one from Mike Pedrini, who amazingly scored that two-point conversion to let Melrose win the Thanksgiving Day game after Wakefield pulled some pretty shaky moves, as you all recall. I'm not going to get into it because the only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner, and you guys won that game, so we'll just let that lie right there. But here is the resolution, which you'll have for always, that you can keep in your scrapbooks and you can have it in your room forever, remembering what a wonderful season this was for you. This is a resolution honoring the Melrose High School football team for making it to the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, December 6, 2014, further declaring the week of December 1st through December 6, 2014 as Melrose Red Raiders Week. It's offered by Alderman Peter Mortimer and the entire Melrose Board of Aldermen, Jacqueline Bird, Robert Boisselle, Donald Kahn, Scott Forbes, Gail Inferna, Jennifer Lemmerman, Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis, Monica Medeiros, John Tramontozzi, and Francis Wright. This one is presented to Mike Pedrini. Whereas, as a member of the 2014-2015 Melrose High School football team, which won its Thanksgiving Day game, and whereas the Melrose High School football team was the Division III Northwest sectional champions for the 2014-2015 football season, and whereas the Melrose High School football team was a Division III state finalist and participated in the Super Bowl on December 6, 2014, at Gillette Stadium, now, therefore, be it resolved that this certificate of recognition be spread across the permanent records of the Melrose Board of Aldermen this second day of March, 2015.
