Forbes: good evening and before I get started and before I read the resolution I just want to say a few words this is one of the reasons why I'm so proud to be from Melrose our city continues to lead from the front when it comes to veteran services and community outreach and its efforts such as operation remember that are a perfect example of that leadership there are many cities and towns that simply have a parade on Memorial Day and Veterans Day and that's it however all you have to do is walk around our city and see for yourself all of the hard work and accomplishments that's been done in the past two years we've seen During the World War I memorial dedication at the Knoll, the tree planted just outside these doors along with a memorial recognizing all of our women veterans, improvements made to our Civil War monuments at the Wyoming Cemetery, the repair of the upper wreath next door at Memorial Hall, and yes, the Korean War memorial that was dedicated this year during our Memorial Day ceremonies. Bear in mind, this has all happened in the last two years. As a 20-year veteran, I am here tonight to say thank you and remind you that the work that you do for our city is indeed special. You see, it's projects like Operation Remember that bridge generations of young and old, students and veterans, and the relationships that are formed during your efforts over the past year, in my opinion, are priceless. It also provides an opportunity for local veterans who are here this evening, and thank you very much for your service. Of all conflicts, young and old, to interact with one another and bring an already close-knit veteran community even closer together. To me, this is what truly defines what a community should be. And we are all grateful for the time and effort that you put into Operation Remember over the last year. Everybody knows it's all about having the right people in the right places doing the right job. So being able to recognize people such as Melrose High School educator Lisa Lord, Veterans Service Officer Ryan McClain, Melrose Veterans Advisory Board Chairperson Robert Driscoll, both who cannot be here tonight because of military obligations because the job is never done. In the entire Advisory Board, without your time, your effort, your dedication, projects like this operation simply cannot happen. I will read the resolution. A resolution in recognition of the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School students for their hard work and efforts as members of the Operation Remember Club. Whereas the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School 2015 Operation Remember Club is the fourth installment of what has become an overwhelming success story within our community. Whereas in 2012 and In 2013, Operation Resolve and Thank You raised funds to send local Melrose World War II and Vietnam veterans on historical missions to visit their respective war memorials in Washington, DC. Whereas last year, Operation Gettysburg provided local Melrose veterans the opportunity to visit historical sites such as the Liberty Bell, the battlefields at Gettysburg, and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Whereas this year, the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School 2015 Operation Remember Club's goal was to raise local awareness and the funding necessary to send our local Melrose veterans on historical missions of their own to the Korean War Memorial in Washington, DC. Whereas this year's mission took place in May of 2015 and was an overwhelming success. Whereas local fundraising efforts also contributed towards the design and construction of the new Korean War monument dedicated on May 24th 2015 at the city's Memorial Day observations. Whereas the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School 2015 Operation Remember Club has raised our community awareness through the recognition of our local Melrose veterans and should be recognized for their outstanding work and dedication. Be it resolved that we the members of the Board of Aldermen do hereby express our sincere appreciation to the Melrose veterans memorial middle school students for their hard work and efforts as members of the operation remember Club on behalf of the city of Melrose and in recognition thereof be it further resolved that on this 15th day of June in the year 2015 a copy of this resolution be spread upon the records of the Board of Aldermen thank you very much for your hard work and dedication I know I speak on behalf of all the board that we have very very proud of you Thank you very much.
