▶ 1:15 Speaker 2: This is the portion of our meeting where any member of the public can come forward and discuss any order that is on our agenda this evening, if they would please identify themselves.

▶ 1:24 Speaker 4: Sure. Julie DeLolo from Circuit Street, and I'm here on the Commission on Women.

▶ 1:33 Speaker 4: I just wanted to reiterate what I had sent around in my email in regards to my concerns in establishing this commission based on the proposal and the items in the proposal. My fear is that establishing a commission that segregates women in this way makes us look like we need help, like we're weaker. certainly don't see the Commission on men you don't see the war on men if this Commission were established for different items maybe items of interest to women versus those of equal pay or the family leave those types of things that happen in the workplace I would ask you all or whoever's on this Commission if it passes to really do research to look at why these issues exist because because it's beyond gender. So in my email I said to you all that men are very good at negotiating their salaries up front. We as women oftentimes are not as good at that. So if I'm, I work as a director of HR. I see it all the time. I watch women come in the door and they might say, geez, I thought that was gonna be a little better. And a man will come in and say, no, I want this. And when we segregate ourselves, continue we perpetuate that we need to just learn to negotiate set up a negotiating class that i'm all for um and so you know there's a lot of talk around the city about the men on the board what their wives would say if they don't vote for this will it be that they dislike women i don't know what's going on in your minds but i would ask you to think about that if that's the reason you're voting for it then you shouldn't do that but the reason that people talk like

▶ 3:27 Speaker 4: that again these types of things perpetuate that kind of conversation where we're looked at differently I have I've I have fought my way I am I'm successful I'm proud of what I do I'm proud of what I make for for money I work in an organization where I believe we all do get paid equally for the work we do but i fight for that i don't need someone to fight for me so again all i it's not that i'm as i said to you not opposed to a commission i'm opposed to the current proposal that talks about it in this regard family leave equal pay laws that already exist on the books a means for women to argue if they feel wronged they can go and fight it they have the laws so and I would ask you to really do some due diligence ask why because it's not you know I know in the state they women make 82 cents on the dollar for the for every dollar man makes that's what they just came out with but is it because we're women or is it because we start behind because we didn't negotiate that extra ten thousand or during the course of our work life we haven't negotiated for a raise I watch it I watch it every day and so I think it's more teaching us teaching women and I have talked about young girls is just teaching them the skills but it doesn't need to be a commission that fights for for our rights I think each and every one of us can fight for our own thank you thank
