Mortimer: The next order we have before us is order 2017-174. acceptance of the mass in motion grant for fund number four five zero three we have with us Kara showers from the Health Department good evening miss showers how are you this is a great grant no match as I understand it no match required that's correct excellent please tell us about the grant sure so

▶ 15:31 Speaker 5: our mass in motion grant is serves Melrose and Wakefield part of a statewide movement to make the healthy choice the easy choice and we have had funding for the last several years and have been able to do a lot of different projects to try to get folks to eat a little bit better and move a little bit more because the research shows that if we can do that chronic disease incidents will go down for our families so less high blood pressure less heart disease less type 2 diabetes so luckily we've had this fun these funds over the last few years to build a lot of partnerships work with a lot of different organizations and city departments and we're excited to have the money back again to help continue to make the environment that we live in in this city easier to get more exercise and eat a little bit better so a few of the projects we've worked on in the past have been a healthy dining program a healthy corner store program we finished some of that work and currently are assisting with the complete streets projects that are happening working closely with dpw and the whole complete streets working group to help all modes of transportation

▶ 17:03 Speaker 5: be thought about as we're building around the city in different neighborhoods i know you guys are aware of the complete streets work but just for folks at home who are not and then another initiative we're working on right now is trying to attract more users to our parks and playgrounds because we have amazing assets in the city and we want as many folks to visit these assets as possible for not only our physical health but also our mental health so that's just a little snapshot of some of the work I I did bring a one pager for you guys I'm sure that wasn't included in the packet
