Forbes: this every year but it is nights like tonight why I am so proud to be from Melrose it truly is an honor and a privilege not only to be a veteran but to be a veteran that resides in this city we are a community that leads from the front when it comes to our veteran services and also when it comes to supporting our local veteran men and women and the reason for that is simple we we have the right people in the right places doing the right job It's people like Lisa Lord, Robert Driscoll, our Veterans Service Officers Ryan McClain and Alicia Redden, our Veterans Advisory Board, and the countless community organizations that support our veteran community. And most important, it's you, our students, who dedicate their time and their effort during the school year not only to fundraise but to research and recognize our veteran community in addition to your regular academic studies. For that, I cannot thank you enough. You know, this year's trip exceeded our expectations and I was fortunate enough to be on that trip and at times it was very emotional and I think I can speak on behalf of all the veterans on that bus when I say that it was a weekend that we will always cherish and one that we will always remember and I thank you for that. So that being said, I'd like to have all the members of Operation Recognition please join me at the podium.

Forbes: have a resolution in recognition of the Melrose Veterans Memorial middle school students for their hard work and efforts as members of the operation recognition club whereas the mm or the MVM MS 2017 operation recognition club is the sixth installment of what has become an overwhelming success story in the community. Whereas in prior years, Operations Resolve, Thank You, Gettysburg, and Remember sent our local Melrose veterans on historical missions to Washington, D.C., the Liberty Bell, the battlefields of Gettysburg, and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Whereas last year, Operation Respect provided local Melrose women veterans the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. Whereas this year, the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School 2017 Operation Recognition Club's mission was to raise local awareness and the funding necessary to send our local Melrose Desert Storm veterans on a historical mission of their own to Washington, D.C. to visit historical sites which included the World War II Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial, whereas the Operation Recognition Club made an unscheduled visit to the United States Air Force Memorial, much to the delight of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Driscoll, who is with us in attendance, whereas this year's mission took place in May of 2017 and was yet another overwhelming success, Whereas the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School 2017 Operation Recognition Club has successfully completed their mission by raising our community awareness throughout the recognition of our local Melrose Gulf War veterans and should be recognized for their outstanding work and dedication. Be it resolved that the members of the Board of Aldermen do hereby express our sincere appreciation to the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School students for their hard work efforts as members of the Operation Recognition Club on behalf of the City of Melrose in recognition hereof be it further resolved than on this 19th day of June 2017 a copy of this resolution be spread on the records of the Board of

▶ 27:36 Paul Brodeur: Alderman thank you Alderman Forbes President Kahn and members of the board in particular someone I don't think has been mentioned yet the parents of the students behind me because it is to your credit that you've raised kids that are doing a little bit extra right that are doing a little bit more and I will tell you I have the opportunity as I often do in the job that I have to talk to veterans and to talk to veterans from across the state and really from across the country and I was talking to a local Melrose Vietnam vet and he talked to me a bit about what it was like when he came home and you've probably heard the story or a story like it a million times about how he was disrespected about how he couldn't really blend into the community and sometimes he lied about his veteran status in his service because of the way he would be treated and the thing that struck me about what he said is that it's different here then it's different in this city and it's the way veterans are received and celebrated and I want you guys to know that you are part of that you made a big difference And as much as you will remember this trip, I think, and what you've done for the rest of your lives, and it will inform everything else you do, for each and every soldier or veteran on that trip, you guys made a difference. And those folks are going to remember it for the rest of their lives as well. So it's kudos to you. I have citations for each of you on behalf of myself and Senator Lewis. It reads as follows. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives citation. Be it hereby known to all that the Massachusetts House representatives, officers and scares, congratulations to, and we'll get to the names in a second if that's okay, in recognition of your participation in Operation Recognition 2017 and the tribute you have paid to our Gulf War veterans and really all the veterans in Melrose. The entire membership extends its very best wishes and expresses the hope for future good fortune and continued success in all endeavors.
