▶ 17:29 Speaker 3: and Facilities Subcommittee. First item on our agenda is a statement of interest for the MSBA Accelerated Repair Program. There is a vote required. I defer now to the Superintendent.

▶ 17:45 Speaker 4: Thank you, Mr. Selma. I'm going to ask Ms. Gaffey, the City Planner, to come forward. We have an opportunity to do an Accelerated Repair Plan. We've done these twice before. one was the science labs at the high school and one was the Hoover windows and these are very good opportunities for us to address facilities concerns

▶ 18:08 Denise Gaffey: good evening I'm Denise Gaffey the director of planning and community development and I've been working with mayor Dolan and superintendent a more on this latest initiative as the superintendent mentioned we have applied in the past to the MSBA for accelerated repair grant programs and these are really nice opportunities for us to address some deficient very specific deficiencies in our school buildings around heating plant or roof or windows and at the same time you get about 50 percent reimbursement on our investment so in this instance we're looking to apply for a portion of the high school roof some of you may recall that about ten years ago we applied for funding through the green repair program it was a similar program only at that time they were looking at focusing on energy efficiency initiatives and a roof replacement with insulation and counted in under that category so we applied for and received a grant to do portions of the high school roof the high school is an enormous building as you know so we were targeting the portions of the roof at that time that had that were original to the 1974 building and the portion over the learning commons which is about 18 000 square feet was replaced in 1995 so when we did our feasibility study our consultants suggested that we could get another 10 years worth of um of light of life out of the roof if we just replaced the seams so that's what we did so it was about nine years ago that we did that project we replaced about 42 000 square feet of roofing over portions of the high school and then repaired this particular portion of the roof so we're we're planning ahead now because we're just about you know close to that 10-year period and and of course as all of you know in the interim this the district made a huge investment in the space below that in the learning Commons so we want to make sure to protect that investment and this is a great opportunity to do that and get potentially get 50% of the funding reimbursed by the state so this is a formality many of you have seen this before it's a statement of interest that the school committee and the Board of Aldermen are required to to vote on and it doesn't obligate the district to pursue um a grant if we were lucky enough to get awarded one it also doesn't obligate it obligate the msba to award us a grant it's just a procedural vote to say that the school district and the board of aldermen are aware of this opportunity and they're supportive
