▶ 48:52 Scott M. Forbes: Thank you very much. You know, when I read the bios of these two outstanding gentlemen, I truly was impressed with how much they've done in such a short period of time. not only to not only the positive impact they had amongst people here in the city of Melrose but also in surrounding communities so I will therefore read these resolutions accordingly as a resolution recognizing the accomplishments of Michael D Iacone and Benjamin G Pierce as Eagle Scouts whereas the Eagle Scout award is the highest award earned by the Boy Scouts and whereas to earn this award Scouts must complete a series of requirements which would help them explore careers, develop leadership potential, learn new skills, and challenge them to give something of themselves and make an impact on their communities. And whereas, Michael D. Iacone joined the Boy Scout Troop 635 at age 11, which marked the beginning of his seven-year Eagle Scout campaign. Michael assumed a variety of leadership positions, including troop librarian, troop guide, and patrol leader. In addition, Michael was inducted into the Order of the Arrow as an ordeal member in 2016. And whereas in the summer of 2017, Michael experienced a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico, where he and a small group of his fellow Scouts successfully completed a two-week, 110-mile trek through the wilderness of the Southern Rockies. And whereas Michael's Eagle Scout project centered on the construction of a flag retirement area at Braycart Reservation in Saugus, Massachusetts. The project intended to support Saugus Veterans Council, providing a location of properly retired flags that received in flag collection boxes located at the Saugus Town Hall. Michael's project, however, actually involved into a multi-use offering and expanded to include surrounding communities. And the purpose for his Eagle Scout project was to respect and honor our veterans, especially his late grandfather who served with distinction in World War II. Whereas Michael was a member of the I-Raiders robotics team, leading the electrical team through its build and competition seasons. He provided tutorial assistance for underclassmen in his drafting and design engineering shop, and he captained the school STEM program for two years. During Michael's senior year, he placed Silver at the SkillsUSA Regional Competition in Additive Manufacturing, allowing him to advance and compete at the state level. Whereas Michael is a member of the 2018 graduating class at Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School. He's graduating with honors and will be attending Wentworth Institute of Technology. He's been awarded the Future Leaders Scholarship and will be taking part in the institution's unique five-year electromechanical engineering program, truly outstanding accomplishments.

▶ 51:44 Scott M. Forbes: Not to be outdone, whereas Benjamin G. Pierce entered the world of scouting in the third grade when he became a wolf in Cub Scout pack 635. Ben received his arrow of light crossed over into Boy Scout troop 635 in 2010 which began his seven-year Eagle Scout campaign. During this time Ben earned ranks and merit badges at a prodigious pace many of which were earned at the TL Storer Scout Camp in the Hidden Valley Scout Reservation. Ben held many leadership positions including assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, senior patrol leader, assistant senior

Whereas in the summer 2014 Ben experienced his once-in-a-lifetime trip to Philmont in New Mexico where he and a small group of his fellow Scouts successfully completed their two-week 83-mile trek through the wilderness of the southern Rockies. And whereas Ben's Eagle Scout project consisted of the complete remodel and remarking of a forgotten walking trail at Mount Hood Golf Course, which included revitalizing four outdoor fireplaces along the trail. Since its completion, the trail has regained relevance and has successfully connected different sections and landmarks of Mount Hood back together, much to the delight of our Parks and Recreation Department, as well as the Melrose residents that frequent that area. Whereas Ben also excelled in educational and extracurricular activities at Malden Catholic High School, where he was a four-year member and captain of the varsity swim team. In addition, he was a four-year member of Malden Catholic's Best Buddies Subdivision and was an active participant in the Reading YMCA Sunday Swim, where Ben has dedicated his time, effort, and resources to teach children with disabilities how to swim. Whereas Ben is currently a freshman at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, working towards a degree in communication, and at Marist, he continues to work in the community with the local Best Buddies chapter and as a member of their school chorus.

▶ 53:46 Scott M. Forbes: the highest honor in Boy Scouting on May 20, 2018, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. And be it resolved, we at the Board of Aldermen recognize and applaud these achievements and record these accomplishments in the permanent records of the City of Melrose.
