Forbes: be great happy to have you all here on the hottest night of the hottest night of the year but tonight is one of the reasons why I'm truly proud to be from Melrose I know I say it all the time but history is local and what we do here does matter and the impact that these students have amongst the community you can see it all around the city so to be able to have seven of these operation trips happen uh and and to have them be so successful is truly outstanding and it's these operation trips and these events that help bridge our younger generations of students with our older generations of veterans and to be honest you really can't put a price tag on that and that's why our veteran services community is so strong and so i just want to recognize our veteran service advisory board robert driscoll vso karen burke former veteran service officer ryan mclean and alicia redden jennifer waden lisa lord all these people make these trips not only a reality but a success and also the most important part is the students the commitment that you make doing your research projects the interviews with the veterans the fundraising events the community involvement it truly is a year-long commitment and in addition to their regular school work that they have to do you know the results at the end of the year are truly extraordinary so without further ado I just like to read a resolution on behalf of the city of Melrose resolution of the Melrose veterans Memorial Middle School students for their hard work and efforts as members of operation united whereas the Melrose veterans Memorial Middle School 2018 Operation United Club is the seventh installment of what has become an overwhelming success story in the community. And whereas in prior years Operations Resolve, Thank You, Gettysburg, Respect, and Remember sent our local Melrose veterans on historical missions to Washington, D.C., the Liberty Bell, the battlefields of Gettysburg, and the United States Military Academy at West Point. And whereas last year Operation Recognition provided local Desert Storm veterans the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the site of the planned Desert Storm War Memorial. And whereas this year, the MVMMS 2018 Operation United Club's mission was to raise local awareness and the funding necessary to send our local Melrose veterans from all generations on a historical mission of their own to Washington, D.C. to travel to historical sites which included the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial and the National Guard Memorial Museum. And whereas Operation United Club was praised by the Arlington National Cemetery tour personnel, indicating that our future is strong upon learning about the mission and purpose of how Melrose honors and recognizes its local veterans in the manner Operation United does. And whereas this year's mission took place in May of 2018 and was yet another overwhelming success. And whereas the MVMMS 2018 Operation United Club has successfully completed their mission by raising community awareness throughout the recognition of our local veteran community and should be recognized for their outstanding work and dedication. And be it resolved we, the members of the Board of Aldermen, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School students for their hard work and efforts as members of Operation United Club on behalf of the City of Melrose and in recognition hereof. Be it further resolved that on this 18th day of June in the year 2018, a copy of this resolution will be spread upon the records of the Melrose Board of Aldermen. We have a

▶ 25:35 Paul Brodeur: great to be back. It's great to be back in the chamber. Congratulations to your to your newest addition, your newest addition, Alderman McMaster. It's good to see you in the horseshoe, sir. One of the reasons I like coming here and doing and things like this so much is because of something Colonel Driscoll said when he was making his remarks about how this is very, very unique in the Commonwealth. And I sit with 159 other folks that represent all parts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. And sometimes it's about bragging rights. And what you all don't know is that you're part of a very special fraternity or sorority now of folks that not only honored our veterans, but helped build, maintain, and grow our community spirit. Because what all the folks here do around this horseshoe, what I try to do in my job up in Boston on our best days, really simply is about building community and recognizing the folks in our community to make it better day by day by day. And that is what this city does so well, and you continue to build that foundation. And so what I would like to do is, I'm not gonna read it 16 times, however many of you are, but we have citations from you from the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and what it says in pertinent part is these are intended for each of you in recognition of your dedication to honoring our veterans while unifying our community through your participation in Operation United. The certificate, hopefully you keep that and you like it, but I think it's the memory of what you've done and it's really your own leadership role, because I will tell you from having had kids in the Melrose Public Schools and still do, that your peers watch you and they wonder what you do and they try to figure out how they can do those kind of things. And it might not be they're gonna do the next operation but they might go to a veterans in the classroom that Lisa Lord's been so terrific about maintaining all these years or when you get into high school you might be a Katie Mead and say well I did that and what did that mean to me well it informed me and now I'm gonna do this this garden or you might organize some other thing that you know will raise up this community and distinguish it so thank you all very very much for what you've done and of course we always want to say thank you to our veterans who have the opportunity to participate in this trip and and certainly not the folks that have in the past but might not be able to for whatever reason anymore even the folks that don't go on the trip very very much appreciate what you all do for them by being involved in this so thank you very much and thank you for giving up your first night of summer certainly as summer vacation to does a great great job to all you and look forward to seeing great things from y'all in the future Thank You mr. president Thank You Alderman Ford I'd
