Final order on our agenda tonight is order number 2019-111, a transfer in the amount of $25,000 from account zero one three zero one two dash five seven excuse me five four seven three zero zero essex agricultural regional school two zero one four seven five two dash five three seven three

▶ 1:50:33 Speaker 5: The funding is going to address the reconstruction of a backstop. It's the backstop on the softball field closest to the fire station, the one that is parallel with the playground. For a couple of years now, she's been balancing softball games with
▶ 1:50:53 Speaker 6: complaints from parents of foul balls going into the playground where two and three-year-olds are playing. So this funding will reconstruct this backstop in such a way to provide a little more screening along the first baseline, which is the area between the playground and the field.
▶ 1:51:10 Speaker 5: It'll be a little higher.
▶ 1:51:14 Speaker 4: We're looking to do this work and schedule this work to take place the end of June,
▶ 1:51:19 Speaker 6: because summer softball league starts shortly thereafter and we'd like to make this improvement.
▶ 1:51:24 Speaker 5: Because that's the time, late spring, summer, early fall is when kids tend to be in that playground.
▶ 1:51:33 Speaker 5: Later into the afternoon and evening when these games are taking place.
▶ 1:51:39 Speaker 6: So this is an improvement that she has been hearing about and
▶ 1:51:44 Speaker 4: requests on for quite some time, and I'm sure some of you have as well.
▶ 1:51:54 Peter D. Mortimer: I'd just like to say I'm very happy to see this coming to fruition. The common obviously is in Ward 6, something we've been concerned about for a while because of that. And I'm glad that we're able to increase the safety for the children and the parents who were playing and supervising the children playing in that playground. That playground is very well used, it's state of the art, we were able to build it a few years ago. I think it's such good state of the art that we have people from other cities coming to visit, which is fine. It just shows what an attractive city Melrose is, and they get a look at it, and That probably has contributed to the soaring property values that we all enjoy. For all millionaires on paper, here in Melrose, the only question is where would we ever move if we sold? But I digress, and I just want to say thank you for the good work in making sure that this was something that has occurred as the outdoor play season comes into being. Now that finally it looks like this weekend, the weather is finally going to break. A serious break, and we're going to have four days in a row without rain, which is miraculous for this year, and I'm glad we're going to get this project underway. Thank you very much.

To the order made by Alderman Medeiros, seconded by Alderman Mortimer, all in favor? Aye. Any opposed? I'll just say I echo Alderman Mortimer comments, and I'm sure all of my colleagues agree. And I think it is useful to note that that baseball, or the softball, that field is right next to the potluck, the smaller kids are right there, as opposed to the bigger kids are running around a little bit farther away. So really glad that you're able to do this.
