Medeiros: the school committee liaison just some updates from the last meeting they're back to doing the school spotlight so this past meeting was the spotlight was on the high school and they talked a lot about the senior capstone project and the transition from going using all the seniors having to do a senior paper to doing a senior capstone project so so far that's working very well we saw an example and it's a great example of what personalized learning can look like one thing that the school committee wanted everyone to know is that there's actually a shortage of paraprofessionals and so they are hiring and if anybody is interested in being a paraprofessional they're looking for paraprofessionals at the Lincoln the middle school and the high school and also for crossing guards and drivers so people can contact the superintendent's office at seven eight

Medeiros: one six six two two thousand we had a retirement of Mary Ann Farrell who's a longtime employee with the school system and was the director of administrative finance and administrative affairs and they approved a new appointment of Leah DeLorenzo Secor who was most recently finance manager in Weymouth and she'll START OCTOBER 28th. WE REVIEWED THE RESULTS OF THE YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR SURVEY AND I THINK SOME OF THE IMPORTANT DATA TO SHARE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE LOOKED AT THIS IN A REGIONALIZED WAY WITH THE WHOLE MIDDLE SEX LEAGUE. SO WE BASICALLY PARTNERED OUT TO HAVE THE ANALYSIS OF THE DATA DONE WITH THE MIDDLE SEX LEAGUE. AND THE NEXT SURVEY IS IN 2021. items of note Melrose at 63.9% had the highest rate in the area of students who never or rarely wear a helmet while riding a bicycle Melrose is also among the highest highest to report feeling sad or hopeless Melrose at 59.4% had the highest percentage of students reporting use of alcohol at least once in their lifetime and the highest level of those reporting binge drinking overall Melrose is a little bit higher in substance use than the Middlesex League and both Melrose and Reading middle school students were the most likely to report having sexual intercourse compared to the rest of the participants in the Middlesex League that was at 4.6 percent compared to 2.8 percent in the league but most students most also had notably the most students that were reported not being physical physically active at fourteen point nine nine percent so that's just activity other things that are note is a lot going on here yeah that's important the Beebe school the school committee is going to have some discussions on that and what's going to happen to that building I know it's of importance to the community on October 29th at their next meeting they'll have a presentation on the educational programs and discussion they'll discuss the parameters and the plans for a public forum on the BB school programming and that will be held that public meeting the week of November 19th and when they're scheduled and expected to take a final vote on the educational program for the Beebe school on December 10th thank you very much councillor

Boisselle: out please there will be a traffic a special traffic Commission meeting tomorrow night October 22nd at 5 30 p.m. in this council chamber the agenda item is resident a resident request to repeal the current overnight parking restriction in the city of Melrose and or amend the existing law so that prohibition does not apply to vehicles registered to an address within the city of Melrose now this meeting will be open for public participation at this time that's all I
