▶ 2:48:47 Margaret Raymond Driscoll: policy and planning with miss Driscoll thank you so much this evening we have two policies on our agenda the first is policy I J and D access to digital resources and you'll note that there is a clause indicating that it's under number five the district will provide the committee with at least one annual report to communicate its digital resources safety measures the committee will review this policy in conjunction with that report so if it is your pleasure I would be interested in starting and taking these one at a time and inviting the superintendent to speak to policy IJ ND so one of the things

▶ 2:49:36 Speaker 6: summer of 2018 is we began to work with Neil Ellis the CIO for the city on creating data privacy language to attach to all our software license contracts we are part of we joined the student data privacy consortium where I think there's 71 communities in Massachusetts that are part of it and it's part of a national movement where every contract we have for software has a clause that the provider will keep student data private and to the point that we have canceled contracts with providers who will not agree to that Amy Lindquist helped us write out that language and that was probably one of the most important things what we've done and we have a list that's available to all staff and they know what what has been what has met the standard and what hasn't the other thing that mr. Ellis and his team have been very proactive on is they have upped our Barracuda which is our spam filter and they've ups blocks on some a lot of unacceptable websites to the point that quite frankly some of the teachers are a little bit upset because they can't get that YouTube video where they want to get to share with the kids without clearing it first with Neil but we but he has put in a number of internal mechanism mechanisms to reduce the chances of inappropriate use of the computers the other thing that we are in the process of doing is we are moving to a point where we will eventually split totally the internal net and the external net so if I sign on like I probably right now I'm tied to the fire station it's wide open when you do that in Melrose there'll be two different set of no and within the Melrose schools will be two different set of standards by what you can access and what you can't access. So again, it's in another internal measure that he's moving towards, we're a little bit away from that. So those are the things that we have been trying to do internally to increase our safety for our students.

▶ 2:52:18 Speaker 6: No, he went through these with me this summer. He went through the policies with me this summer and he felt there was nothing in terms of the policy, what was more important was what we were doing around content filtering was more important to us than the policies themselves.

There is a clause in number three under implementation of this policies uh policy that indicates the review of this policy will be done annually by the superintendent of schools and the i.t director and any updates will be reviewed and approved by the melrose school committee so superintendent do you have any updates uh to share with us
