This is a portion of the meeting where any member of the public can come forward to speak on any one of the three items on our agenda tonight.

▶ 1:13 Speaker 2: My name is Michelle Carson. I'm at 110 Linwood Ave, but I'm here as a representative of Robin Peavy, owner of Buckelews 529 Main Street. She had a previous commitment. So I'm just going to read a statement from Robin. To the honorable members of the Melrose City Council, I am writing today to ask for your support of Order 2020-38, an act authorizing the City of Melrose to convert up to two licenses for the sale of wine and malt beverages for off-premises consumption to licenses for the sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption. As one of the two licensed retailers impacted by this order, I want to convey my strong support for this expansion. As you know, Melrose residents enjoy our unique downtown and the independent retail shops and restaurants. For local businesses to continue to thrive, we are always looking to find additional ways to keep customers coming in to make sure that they are spending their time and money in Melrose. I feel that this is a responsible step forward in that it is limited in scope to the two existing retailers who are well established and in good standing with the Melrose Liquor Licensing Commission. Melrose residents have been vocal this year about wanting to see further economic development in a way that preserves the qualities and character that we love about Melrose. I believe this modest change to these two existing licenses accomplishes that goal. As this requires approval from the state legislature, I would respectfully ask that you act favorably on this order this evening to move the process forward.
